The engine splutters a few times and clouds of foul smoke are pumped from the exhaust but it starts. After a few revs it gets stronger, there is over half a tank of fuel.
"Some help'd be good " shouts Tracey struggling with the baby carrycot, and two rucksacks full of nappies, baby milk and clothes for the baby and Tom. She also was attempting to herd Scooby towards the wagon too. Hoping Jerico and rex were following.

"I'll take the bags" said Janet brusquely, reaching for the rucksacks. She glanced at the manhole covers leading to the sewers. "You can hear them down there, but they're not coming up this time. What is that noise they're making, it's horrible" she murmured. "Adam, you'd better see that Scooby gets in the van, she can't see to everything with the baby to look after".
The mention of Scooby jogged Janet's memory. "I don't suppose anyone's spared a thought for the pony? As far as I know he's still in the shed where Jericho left him. I know we can't take him with us if we're driving, but it would be horribly cruel to leave him shut in. Someone should go and let him out to take his chances".

Jericho walks out into the road, takes his knife out and slices his hand, causing it to bleed profusly.
"HERE!!! OVER HERE!!!"
He yells out at the slugs. trying to get there attention.
He runs down to manhole and spreads his blood around the manhole.
then he runs down to where the horse is and he tries to get 'Jeremy' from where he was penned.
He then rides Jeremy to the van everyone tries to get in and then prepares to ride off into the sunset.

"Sweet Mary and all the Saints," Chris says to himself and taps the fuel gauge. "Nice..." He winds down the window and looks back up the street. Pushing the van into gear and flicking on the lights, he spins the vehicle around in the street - mounting the kerb at least once - to give the others better illumination.
"Jericho!" he yells after the man. "What the hell are you doing man?" He shakes his head. "If we get split up," he yells, "Meet up at the petrol station just up the road!"
He turns to Lynne, "Can you drive?" Chris asks. "Just curious." He reaches behind him and undoes the locks so people can get in. "Damn it," he says and pulls the scabbard over his head and drops the sheathed machete on the seat next to him.

Janet climbed into the back of the van, placing the rucksacks in the corner out of the way. Moving over to allow the others room to get in, she turned her back on Tracey, giving a quick wave through the window to Jericho. She was pleased he had fetched the pony, if he hadn't gone she would have.
As Chris prepared to drive away, Janet took a last look back at the house. In the end they hadn't had time to bury Don and she supposed it would be a while before she could think of him without feeling the unpleasant twisting sensation inside, but for now she had to put her grief aside. All the same, leaving felt like an almost physical wrench. "Goodbye" she mouthed inaudibly, brushing away an errant tear as the van began to move.

Shelley joined Tracey in the back, she was pale and shaken by the experience. The insecurity, being alone, hearing creatures moving creatures that shouldn't be....
Lynne nods when asked whether she can drive.

Adam, at the mention of Scooby, swiftly looked around for the poor dog whom he had forgotten about, wondering if he was still in the house. "Scooby!" he shouted out loud, hoping to see the dog, keeping his gun out in case any of those slugs got any ideas.

Nearly crying in relief at seeing Scooby he grabbed the little munchkin up and onto his lap, giving the dog a hug. "I think we're ready reverend, so get revving," he said to Chris, nearly cringing at his own joke.

"Goodbye Leeds," Chris says and sets off at a true 'road captain' pace - a steady 30. "Everyone okay?" he calls over his shoulder. "I said we'd meet with Jericho at the petrol station. I saw one earlier. It's less than a minute away." The van grunts as Chris shifts gear and they head off into the night.
