Shelley McCormack had a somewhat different childhood growing up. Being the daughter of a professional thief, she spent many hours outside of school dancing and singing to passerbys while her father would pick their pockets. By the time she was in grade school she was doing her own smash and grab robberies, and feeling up the occasional passenger on the bus for his wallet.
All tha changed when she wandered too close to the curb on her tenth birthday. When she woke up in the hospital, she found that she had been robbed of her sight due to a distracted motorist. Finding her life and career changed forever, she had to find new ways of bringing in unsuspecting rubes. She could till dance, and her singing drew crowds. She was an oddity to many,a blind girl dancing and singing. They never even noticed when their wallets and coin purses disappeared.
Then came the disease. A little after her sixteenth birthday, she heard of the strange new disease putting people in the hospital. At first it was a few people on her block. She could hear them hacking and coughing in the rooms around her flat. Then more coughs, and then nothing. No birds. No ambulances. Not a sound. For days she stayed in her flat, unable to find her father, or anyone else for that matter. Running low on supplies inside her flat, she grabbed her cane, a bag full of clothes and her remaining food and bottled water, and made her way out into the world,armed with little more than her wits and her walking can
