Janet was getting exasperated. More talk. Was that all anyone was ever going to do here? Just talk? "Have your tea by all means" she said to Peter. "But for heaven's sake if we're going at all, let's just go. I know I won't be much help with lifting things, but I can keep a checklist and make sure we get as many essentials as possible. There's no question that there's a lot of people here and we need supplies and please I just want to get away from here for a while and be doing something. Is that too much to ask?"

"Bill said something about the end of the world," Peter retorts. "While I'd love a brew and and sit down, I think hearing what he's got to say may be worthwhile. Are you that desparate to go shopping? We could bring him along if the pick-ups are that urgent."

Janet flung up her hands in a dismissing gesture. "Oh I give up" she snapped. "Unless I'm very much mistaken it was only a few minutes ago that you were persuading me to come along for the ride, so we could 'have a talk' if I remember right. Not that I'm so avid to have deep and meaningful conversations with you, I just thought the trip seemed like a good idea." Unless the world was going to end in the next few hours, 'Bill' would still be here when they got back and surely if he said something important they could be told about it.

The thought of yet more delays nearly left what was left of Leon patience in tatters. He began to pace up and down as if he was in a cage “Surely we should just get this thing over and done with” he said under his breath “We don’t need a liability along for the ride, to mess with our brains” His yearning for alcohol was beginning to make him jittery and as he paced he shoved his hands into his pockets trying to stop his constant wringing of them

"Mug 'o tea sounds just right" said Alyssa with a smile. "We don't all need to stick together like high school girls going to the ladies room do we? Those who want to scavenge can go. Those who want tea and a chat can stay."

"Suit yourself, pet," Peter replies flatly. "Stay here and mope around if you like. He - " he stabs a finger towards 'Bill' - "said something about the End of the World. So, yeah, he could be out of his box on whatever he's got stashed in his roll-ups, but in case you hadn't noticed things have been pretty f***in' wierd since the end of humanity. There's things.... things in the sewers and the ponds. You've just knocked off some priest who supposedly's Paul b**tard McKenna from the Dark Side..." Peter's face starts to go more than a little red. "I've been chased by f***ers with sharpened teeth and snogged his sister - who told me how to find you guys - and who now appears to be Bill!" He rubs his eyes with the palms of his hands.
"So, I for one would love to know what in the name of ar** is going on! If that means quizzing the prophet or any of you, I'm game. This world is royally sc**wed and I don't think we should ponce off into the sunset eyes wide shut for the sake of five minutes. There's no coppers, no-one to hold our hands if we fail."
He starts to calm, one hand opening and shutting like a set of miniature bellows. "A little bit of knowledge may just save our sorry asses. I'm kinda enjoying the whole not being dead thing..." Peter sighs and shakes his head; angry at everyone, or just angry at himself for the outburst.
Raising his hand, he bends back one finger. "I want to ask Bill one thing, and that's all. After that, I'm good to go. If any of you want to tag along, that's fine. If not, I'll see you later."

"Right, now we're getting somewhere" drawled Janet sarcastically. She felt herself withdraw from Peter slightly following his outburst, half the small seed of trust that had begun to germinate lost in that instant. "Drink your tea, ask Bill whatever it is you want and then let's go". She would decide then which vehicle she would go in. Either option would be as bad as the other she thought. Adam in one, although he had been almost civil to her a few minutes ago. Or Peter in the other. Janet had to admit that his shouting had frightened her and there was no way to escape in a car.

"I'm also intensely curious to hear what Bill has to say about that ... but there's no need to be rude about it, Peter." says Alyssa. "We are all on the same side in wanting to continue enjoying 'this whole not being dead thing.'"
She turns to Bill and says encouragingly- almost pleading, "Please Bill, please tell us about the end of the world and what we can do about it."

Peter looks at Alyssa, a long studying look but one without any hostility. After a time he says: "You're right, Alyssa." He addresses Janet too: "I'm sorry."
He draws in a short sharp breath. "To find that people are all still alive.... " His tone is gentle, his movements languid. "...and to hear that it may all end once again. It's just too much." Peter rests his hand on the small satchel at his side. His thumb touching the rough cloth strap.

"We've all had our moments" replies Alyssa gently, then turns her attention back to Bill...

"Alright, I agree we should get as much information as possible from anyone who might know anything" said Janet, still wary of Peter. "Why does he keep fingering that bag?" she wondered. "What's he got in there?" "But there's about fifty people here and the goods Mary said they had won't last for long. Even if the world is going to finally end in a few months, weeks even, it's going to end for us a lot sooner if we don't get more supplies" Janet turned towards Bill, interested in spite of her opinions of him in hearing what he had to say.

Leon’s hands were feeling clammy and his tongue kept snaking out of dry lips as he waited for the high tea scenario to end. He was finding it incredibly hard to settle now the thought of alcohol was in his head, the rational side of him knew that there was no certainty in finding the item that he was craving but the talk of Linda and the memories of how he had failed the woman he loved bought back all his old yearnings. He paced and then kicked at the ground as he waited.
