The Isla de las Profundidades, a great mystery to many. According to the legends it first appeared nigh on a millenium ago, rising from the depths of the ocean like a whale who has just come up for air. Five rocky outcrops circled the island, and it seemed as if slowly but surely the island made its way across the seas, making it impossible to place on a chart. Due to this characteristic, the kings of the time deemed it a perfect place to store their treasures and spoils of war.

Of course, the kings were superstious, and so made sure a temple was built to what they considered the guardian of the island. Not much is known about what this guardian is supposed to be, but there are rumours that it may be an animal of some kind or other. A special priesthood was set up in order to take care of the temple and make the adequate scarifices. The priests were from the kings' own family, usually a prince and usually the second born.

However, after one hundred and fifty years or so, the island diappeared, it's sandy shores and vibrant hills disappearing beneath the turmoiling seas. This of course came as a great blow to the king of the time, who had been in the middle of expanding his empire. As the island disappeared his campaign collapsed, as did his empire. Most of the land's riches were upon that island, and when it submerged so did the gold.

There was a great economic depression, and it lasted for nigh on a century. Another century passed when the lands were once again stable before the island rose once more. It soon attracted the attention of the current kings whom had forgotten about the events a century beforehand. They found the treasure and the temple upon the island, and saw fit to take the treasure for their own. Of course, like the kings before them they were also superstitious, and so saw fit to rekindle the religion that had resided upon the island. There they had found documents detailing the origin and purpose of the priesthood, and so it had been reformed.

This time, the island remained for over four hundred and fifty years, and in that time the empires had expanded and the lands grown rich once more, the island retaking its original purpose as a place to store the kings riches. The kings had been warned of the dangers of the island disappearing into the depths, old records being found by enthusiastic scholars revealed the forgotten knowledge. Yet, the last time the island had disappeared after one hundred and fifty years, yet by the time they had found the records the island had been above water for over two hundred years.

So, the kings ignored the warnings, and, when the island did once again the kings were caught unawares and of course blamed their scholars and high priests. This time however, the kings managed to keep their hold on the land, though there was a great amount of gold stashed on the island, they had at least been wise enough to not put all of their treasurey on the island.

Now, one hundred years later the island has once again resurfaced, its sandy beaches and green palm trees seemingly unharmed by the currents of the sea. This time however, it was not found by the servants of the kings, but instead by a simple fisherman who was more than willing to sell off his knowledge to anyone with a good enough price - rather that than step on the accursed place.
