Ok, I'll kick off with a question in here first.
Is there any reason why we should not look at other people's threads? This wasn't mentioned so I assume it's not a problem, however, some GMs really seem to have a problem with it or have a valid reason for not doing so. Therefore I thought I should check first.

I was in two minds to put do / don't read the other threads.
From a gamer point of view, I'd feel a bit short changed if I couldn't pick up on the background / events from the other threads. It would also be hypocritical of me considering I'd read the Contagion threads to see how the other team where getting along.
From a Ref point of view, should you know what the other characters are up to? Realistically, no, but I'm going to trust you all not to act on information outside your character's area.
In many ways, I like the idea of a game being much more than killing the bad guy and saving the entire planet. I find it very much the cliché of: the journey, not the destination.
So.... and to finally arrive at the point
.... if you want to read the other threads, that's fine. I don't have an issue with it.

Thanks, that's pretty much how I think as well and I try my best not to act on something I've read elsewhere as it detracts from the story and I don't think it's fair anyway

> street car
Yup, it's a tram or one of those open window trolley bus things that cities in warm climates have.
Just for info, you're unlikely to see a car - as in auto mobile - they've been replaced with pods..... and they don't come to the lower parts of the city either
You saw what happened to Johnny Cab.
I'll mention ground crawler if it's a car or a truck.
Hmmm... I may start a page for slang / lingo if things start getting confusing.

Ok, the curry of the questions is back!
I was just wondering, when we use our skills do we roll a d20+that skill?
Also, I was also wondering whether shadow and sneak might be the same thing, or totally different?

It's a D10 for all skill tests. Each test is:
skill base + skill + D10 + mods.
skill base = perception, manipulation, agility, etc
skill = running, streetwise (info), detect lies, etc
D10 = well, just roll and add up the score.
If you get a 10, roll again and ADD that to your total (you only get on extra roll even if you roll a 10 again).
If you roll a 1, roll again and DEDUCT that new value from your total. If that new value is below your skill level or negative, it's a fumble!!
> shadow and sneak might
Shadow is the ability to follow someone without them knowing about it.
Sneak, on the other hand, is you ability to..... ummm.... sneak about without being heard.
I've got some rules on skill defaults... which is basically the option to use another skill if you don't have the one I ask for.
Eg: Shadowing : any of agility, hide or sneak at -1
If you are all in agreement, I'll use these or we can keep it simple and I'll just use what I think it a related skill.

There seems to be a bit of confusion over skill tests... which isn't surprising as its the first time we've all played together.
Righto. All skill tests start with you adding up your character's skill base and then adding the skill on top.
PERC - Perception (visual) +6.
MANP - Pistol +4
My character's PERC - or Perception skill base is +8 - and his MANP - or Manipulation skill base is +7.
This makes my skills totals like this:
PERC +8, Perception (visual) +4 = 12+
MANP +7, Pistol +4 = 11+
When the Ref ask for a skill check or skill test, use that total (12 for visual perception tests) and add the result of a D10 to it.
[ July 9, 2008, 10:00 pm ] - Synik rolled 1d10 ± 12 and obtained 20 ( 8 ). Reason : Demo visual perception test.
Okay... I mentioned earlier if you roll a 10. What then? Cut and paste your first roll - just like I've done above. Then: roll the D10 a second time without any modifiers. Put both lines together thus:
[ July 9, 2008, 10:01 pm ] - Synik rolled 1d10 ± 12 and obtained 22 ( 10 ). Reason : Demo visual perception test.
[ July 9, 2008, 10:02 pm ] - Synik rolled 1d10 ± 0 and obtained 1 ( 1 ). Reason : Bonus dice for getting a 10!.
[ Total = 23! ]
ps: What I'll do is amend the character sheets to list the skills as BASE, +7, skill +3 = 10. That should make it a bit easier as we go forward.
Any questions?

I'd still say that mud is a lot clearer at present
but if every value that might possibly be required is spelled out on the character sheet it would be helpful

All your skill stuff is on the character sheets now. I editted them earlier on - I hope nobody minds.
Eg:
AGIL +12, acrobatics +3 = 15
AGIL +12, athletics +4 = 16
AGIL +12, climbing +4 = 16
That number at the end is the one you are interested in when it comes to rolling dice.
If I asked for a climbing skill test from you, EB. You'd roll a D10 and add 16 to it.
[ July 9, 2008, 11:19 pm ] - Synik rolled 1d10 ± 16 and obtained 21 ( 5 ). Reason : Climbing test.
If any of you aren't sure, please feel free to the question as OOC in the in game thread. Please don't struggle in silence!

Thanks Synik, it looks a bit more understandable now.

No probs.
Y'see a GM isn't just there for the nasty things in life.... like a fumbled parry roll or a botched saving throw.

I don't have perception audio so I guess it's 1 D20 +7? I don't get the D10 bit though.
