"Oh, lovely..." Eldrid muttered sarcastically upon seeing the bones, and the big man's reaction.

Picking up a femur and hefting it, Eldrid examined the bone in his hand; he had often heard tales of man-eaters on isolated islands; if there were marks on the bone to indicate it had been chewed on... well, that would just make matters even worse.

The bones were human, no doubt about that, and there were no discernable chewing marks on them, which settled Eldrid's fretful imagination slightly. However, there were more than just a few bones in the pile. In and around the bones a couple of gold minted coins could be seen, not the shiniest of things anymore, but still recogniseable.

Steffan picks up one of the coins and examines it, trying to find a date or some kind of marking.

[ May 25, 2008, 9:05 pm ] - Gryffydd65 rolled 1d20 ± 8 and obtained 14 ( 6 ). Reason : HISTORY.

Steffan isn't sure if he can tell when this coin is minted.

By the emblem and figurehead that is shown on the coin, Steffan estimates that it is from around about three hundred to three hundred and fifty years old, though it is hard to tell with the wear that it has been under.

"Bones aren't going to help us get home," Eldrid barked. "Let us keep moving; seems to me these fellers have been laying around here for awhile; they can rest here abit longer."

That being said, he began following the stream, swinging the femur like a cudgel as he did so.

“Very true my friend” said Arty as he raised himself unsteady on wobbly legs “Be a good chap and mind where you’re swinging that femur, you could un-man me very easily” he said good naturedly “ Well the plot thickens, first there’s the whole environmental mystery, then ancient bones and now coins that date back to God knows when” Rubbing his hands together in sheer delight “I haven’t had this much fun since I got stuck up the chimney when I was a lad. You know that had to pour melted lard down the flew to get me out. Smelt like bag of chips for weeks after that” he guffawed

"Lard, eh? That explains a thing or two," the gaunt man said, and then it was his time to chuckle. "Any chance the money was put there to make sure the bones got a decent burial? Maybe the fellers knew they weren't going to get home until next time the island became 'available to mortal men' or somesuch, and they made a habit out of sticking coins with the bones of their dead. Obviously the last person to die wouldn't get the same treatment, so we're likely to find him - or her later... unstacked and pennyless..."

More dead people thought Scurvy sourly looking at the pile of bones whilst trying to think of a way to mark the spot. After all that gold might come in handy if they ever found a way off this accursed island. He gave a small sigh he doubted very much that their own fates would turn out a whole lot happier than the bones' previous owners.

"Bah; someone stacked the bones after they died, so there must have been sentient creatures involved, one way or another. And since it clearly was some time ago, I say it's pointless to dwell on it. Might be it was a sign not to drink the water, though. Other than that, moving along the stream is a good way of not getting lost; we can find our way back here easily enough.

Splendid idea” chortled Arty “We can paddle in the stream if out tootsies get hot” A quizzical look darken his jolly face for a moment “Though I have heard of fish that can whittle the flesh of your very bones in seconds so perhaps we should err on the side of caution if we enter the water” Taking a last look at the bones “I do believe we have found all there is to find here, poor souls, I only hope that we may find some survivors”

Steffan followed the rest of the group, his thoughts still trying to piece together the information concerning the coins and the stacked bones, obviously someone cared about the deceased, he wondered if anyone in this group would show the same respect. He thought not.

As the group continued along the river they were pretty quite, quite enough to hear some rather odd sounds. What they were hearing was nearly like drumming. Up ahead, they could see an area where the trees seemed to stop. It appeared that there was some kind of road going through the trees here, perhaps from back in the days when the island had been used as a storage place for wealth, or perhaps for a more sinister purpose.

" I believe you might be right, should we follow the road or follow the drumming?" Steffan asked the group.
