I don't know whether the new players are familiar with white wolf system or not, so a brief overview.
Each skill dice roll involves an attribute and a skill, each number in each represents a number of d10. So if I asked you to roll perception and alertness, (3 perception and 2 alertness) you would be rolling 5d10 aiming for a target number or above.

Firstly I would recommend thinking of a character concept before you start creation, it makes life easier.

The attributes are split into physical mental and social, there are three catagories in each. You start off with a free point in every attribute catagory, and then have three point costs to split between the groups. 7 points, 5 points and 3 points.

physical
strength
dexterity
stamina

social
charisma
manipulation
appearance

mental
perception
intelligence
wits (used with alertness for init)

So you could put 7 points in social, 5 in mental and 3 in physical if you wished your choice. One point =1 point
