More about Eldrid D'Jean:
Description:
Eldrid 'D'Jean' (last name entirely fictional) is a tall, haggard and weatherbeaten man of indeterminable age, anywhere between his late 20s to early 40s. His dirtyblonde hair is unkept and usually just carelessly bundled up in a knot/ponytail. His face is scarred and pockmarked, and his body lean and stringy. On bright sunny days he wears an eyepatch over his left eye; some blade or other has split the left pupil in two and brigth sunlight hurts him, giving him headaches and a foul mood.
Personality:
Eldrid is a mean one. On board the ship, he has been curt at best with any passengers, and downright nasty (and violent) to some of the crewmembers he was in charge of. Even those who came onboard the ship with him, whom he knew before the boat set sail, would call him cranky at best. Only to his brother Jonah has he acted anything resembling friendly. Had anyone who knows him or knows of him, ever seen him how gentle he is with his sister Sif, (whom he has not seen for a few years) they would not believe it was the same man...
History:
Eldrid never much cared for 'family', as there was not much family to speak of to begin with. His father was one of many who left a coin or two on his mother's bedside table and left before the cock crew in the morning, and that same mother died of some pox or other that one of her 'lovers' gave her, when Eldrid was 10. By then, he long since had become a brother to four, although two of his siblings died within months of their birth. At the time of his mother's passing, they were three children, Eldrid, Jonah and little Sif, their mute sister.
Eldrid did his best to look after his charges, but 10 is no man's age, and it was difficult to get by. The three were soon thrown out of their room, and they never got any money for any of their belongings, which were all picked through by the landlord and whatever he didn't keep, he sold for 'unpaid rent'.
The three children were now homeless. Luckily they managed to convince a familiy to take in little Sif; she was a beautiful girl, and certainly not very noisy. Besides, she could read and write quite a bit, far better then both Eldrid and Jonah. With Sif taken care of, the two brothers set off to make a living for themselves...and thus ended up in a life of crime.
Many years later, Eldrid convinces Jonah and several of their cronies to all hire on as crew on a ship heading out on a fantastic jourmey; to discover the lost Isla de las Profundidades. Gruelling work, to be sure, but the rewards!
The plan is simple; labour on the boat until such time that the island is found, then find the right moment and kill the officers, and any officer-friendly member of the crew, and win the treasures of the famed island for themselves.
But then, last night, after overhearing that the ship ought now to be close to the location of the island, the conspirators met below deck. Here they talked, and discussed the plan of attack. After having lost the draw on who would have to kill the captain, an action considered to carry with it ill luck for the doer, Eldrid left the others and went up top top think. He was due for a hour or two on watch, and would have plenty of time to contemplate his deed. Only, the storm came, and all foul murderplans were thrown overboard - along with Eldrid.
