you hear the old man saying" just a few more steps quickly and you may want to drop that thing "
as you emerge and your eyes adjust from the bright light the old man is waiting his skin is red from the heat and the pattern of his raised hand can be seen across his face, as you look at your self you notice your own skin is red everything that was not covered is red. also as michele looks to the next in line she sees nothing but a dismembered arm.
the old man chuckles " you did good you remembered, where are the rest coming shortly i suppose"

Michele dropped the arm in horror. "Sage" was her first thought, but no, it couldn't be. If something so drastic had happened she would surely have been aware of it, they had been right next to each other. "I had her. Sage was holding my hand.. It must have been when we fell I got the wrong hand. Where are they? They were right behind me...". Michele put her hands over her face in despair and slumped against the wall.

Dean looked shockedly at the arm. "It's not her's then?" Dean said as he bent down and looked at the arm closely, trying to see if it was that of a woman or not. "Who else's arm could it be though?" he said. His voice was almost shrill, though he managed to keep it down as much as possible.

"I don't know whose it is". Michele's voice was considerably shriller than Deans. "It could be anyone's, but I don't think it can be.. Sage. I was holding her hand, right up till we all fell. I let go and grabbed it again quick.. I thought it was her but..." Michele gestured helplessly at the arm. "She was still close to me, I could hear her talking." Michele's voice was now flat, dead. "If she lost her arm, even if she was.. killed". "Please God no" she thought. "I would have heard something.. felt something..."

All this didn't fully address the fact that Sage and Brian had been the other half of their chain and they were now gone. Michele spoke with more firmness in her voice. "So do we go back in there and try and find them? Where's that old man? He said there were other exits, maybe he knows where they lead or if they all join up at some point."

Dean looked down at his crimsom skin, it was alomst like the blood that would flow should that skin be broken. Unnervingly, the thought of blood calmed him. He shook his head and looked up at Sage. "I don't think it would be a good idea to go back through there to be honest, I mean look at our skin now. As well, we wouldn't be able to see, so if we do come across a body we won't know who's it is, or even where it is. If it's just someone unconscious who knows what we might step on. I say we look for the other exits, or perhaps we should just call out back the way, see if they can here us and vice versa, and work out what to do next from there."

Every fiber of Michele's being wanted to go back, to find Sage. How could she forgive herself for letting her go. But she had to admit that Dean was right, as he had been right before. She looked at her skin, it would be suicide to go back in there. "Ok we'll call out" she said resignedly. "If they're near enough to get to us they should hear, if not we can only hope they found another exit".

Happy that Michele had taken the more logical option Dean edged as near to the light as he dared and then called out, "Sage! Brian! Anyone!" his throat feeling the strain of the past while. He cursed himself for not taking a swig of the hose water, but then again, maybe it was wise that he hadn't, who knew where its source was.

"Sage, Brian, can you hear me" screamed Michele lapsing into coughing at the strain on her raw throat. Squinting her eyes against the light she attempted to make out any moving figures.

the old man speaks " no you can not go back out there not like you are you would die from dryness no water in you, please come away " he steps further back along the tunnel which as you go back becomes a tiled corridor.

all you can see are pipes and close to the tunnel bodies hung up or leaning over pipes.

while holding up your hands to shout you notice your bare skin is red like sun burn touching it makes it feel like sun burn a quick stinging sensation that comes back every so often so you scratch it again.

a successful Will save will have you not touching the red patches any more. DC 10 fail and its itchy time till blood shows (over a time it will get worse then bleed)

Dean looked longingly at the skin on his hands. Not so long ago that flesh had a faint pink tinge, but now it was crimsom. He felt his nerve recpetors begging him to scratch at them, to give them a different pain to take their attention away from the tingling feeling they now had.

He fought them off and put his hands down to his sides. "He's right, we can't go back, it would be suicide, but I don't here anything." He looked down at the floor for a moment, "Look Michele, I know you probably don't want to here this, but we have to move on, we can do nothing here, and you never know, perhaps further ahead we'll find them, or some means to find them, this place whatever it is must surely have a control room somewhere."

Michele brushed her fingers lightly over her burned skin, trying to ease the itchy stinging sensation but resisting the urge to scratch. She peered out into the blazing light but all she could see were pipes and nearby, bodies hung or draped over them. That must be where the arm came from she realised. Dean was talking sense she knew but still... "Oh Sage I'm so sorry" she thought as she began to turn away from the tunnel entrance.

Wait, was that a voice? Michele struggled to hear through the noise of the steam.

"Dea.............hel.............i.............t.......ou"
"We...............t...............w..........ll...........ind.............u"

She couldn't make out any words but it was definitely voices. "Dean listen. It's them, it must be" she cried excitedly. Leaning back out as far as she dared she shouted again. "Sage, Brian. Over here, you can't be far if I can hear you". She turned to Dean. "Please, we have to give it a minute. Just a minute more then I promise I'll come but at least give them a chance"

"Ok, we wait, but like us they won't be able to get through the light again, at least not without causing themselves serious damage." Dean looked down at his hands and then up again. He decided against shouting out again, no doubt they couldn't make out what he was saying just like he couldn't make out what they were saying.

Michele turned away from the entrance dejectedly. "Nothing. But I definitely heard them, I suppose we can only hope they found another of those exits he mentioned". She gestured to the old man then rounded on him as a sudden burst of anger overcame her. "You seem to have heard plenty. How about telling us all you know instead of producing a snippet of information when you feel like it. Do these exits join up anywhere? Are the others in any more danger than we are by going a different way? Come on, give".

Michele grabbed the man by his vest and shoved him against the wall. She didn't know if he actually had any more information than he was giving them or whether he was just making out he knew more so they wouldn't leave him, but she was stuck in a tunnel with the two people she trusted least in the group and the one person she felt some kind of connection with was now lost in the hell they had just come through. She needed a vent for her rage so she just picked the most convenient scapegoat.
