The cavern was deep, ledges ran around the large egg shaped walls, criss-crossing up and down. Down deep in the centre stood a massive drum, the top of it seeming to have been woven from various skins - human skins that is. There were precipices jutting out so that the drum was able to be reached, and it was on one of these that most of the natives stood, the masked one with them looking up and seeing only blackness in the tunnel that the group had just come from, it seemed that Arty had managed to give them the element of suprise.

" So what now? " whispered Scurvy, "Is Eldrid going to rush him? " thinking that that was probably the worst plan ever in the history of bad plans. But he couldn't think of an alternative. And besides it wouldn't be him charging out into whatever trap lay ahead...

When Eldrid saw the chamber open up infront of him, he was close to going through with the worst plan in the history of bad plans, mainly because he instinctively thought they had to use the element of surprise before it disappeared. Then he remembered; it took some getting used to that they had an illusionary wall infront of them.

Still, this thing might blow up at any moment; there certainly was a chance that the Elf be spotted, so Eldrid tried to see if he could discern the easiest way to get down to that drum... and how many natives he would get to kill on the way there. So far, he could only see one way; out onto the precipice and through all of them. Hmmm.

Creeping close to the others, trying to herd them together as close as possible, so as not to have to whisper too loud, Eldrid said:
"Might be we should wait them out. They can't know if we decided to turn back; eventually they might decide to go back to their cave, or at least let their guard down; either would be better for us than storming out there. Besides, how do we know we're even seeing the real thing here? If Arty can hide us with one chip, wouldn't the feller in the mask do play sillybuggers with our minds right now, if he could? Maybe there's a drop right infront of them?, or some other mischief"

"They might not realize that we have the chip so let's mask ourselves as invisible," Steffan suggested.

Beads of perspiration dotted Arty ever increasing forehead as the pressure of keeping his mind focused on nothingness took it’s toll “That’s quite true my dear Eldrid, everything we are seeing may not be what it appears." He whispered back "I’m afraid that I might not be able to concentrate on two things at the same time, it might be possible to make us appear invisible but I believe the transition between me making us disappear and the sudden lifting of the darkness maybe discernable by the natives.” Arty shook his head unsure of the limits of the power of the fragment “But I’ll try it if you all want me too”

Eldrid saw how the big man was struggling, and it got him worried. So, he tried to speak as unagressivly as he could (no small feat for such a confrontational man as Eldrid D'Jean) and whispered to Arturo: "Ye're doing well, 'Merlin'. Seems ye have knack for this magic-business. Now, here's what I suggest ye try: If ye're truly just using yer inner eye to decide what they see, then visualize the darkness that you are concentrating on now, slowly - sloooooooooow-ly - fading away, and in it's place: nothing. No sailors or old women, no shadows cast by torches, or dust kicked up by feet; just cave-walls and cavefloor, same as we see around us, with that same gloomy look to it."

Eldrid looked around for the Elf: "How close do ye need to be to put an arrow on the witch-doctor? I'm pretty sure that if he IS doing some of his mumbo-jumbo right now, then an arow in the face would take his mind off his concentration for a while, so we could see what is real or no."

Arty stuck his fleshy tongue between his teeth, a subconscious action that he hoped would concentrate his mind. He half listen to Eldrid, the man’s surprisingly cajoling voice helping him to visualise a deep dark cave, no men, no light and certainly no old crone. His kept his eyes welded shut so that reality didn’t interfere with the rough, slightly damp walls bereft of any life what so ever that he was seeing. .

There was a feeling, it was kind of like that feeling you get when you're being watched, except, well, it felt like you most definitely weren't being watched. It worked, Eldrid in his rather uncharacteristic niceness at that moment might have given Arturo a tap on the back, of course he would have to be able to Arturo for that to work, and his own hand for that matter.....

Eldrid felt... very strange. He could not see the others; that was fine - but that he could not see himself was worse. There was a short moment of vertigo when he no longer had his own body to measure the distance to the floor by. He had to tentatively take a small step to make sure his feet were still down there. Still, this was very clever. It would make things a damn sight easier for them to do what needed to be done if their resident wizard could keep this up. But maybe he couldn't...

"Something tells me magic is hard work, folks; are we ready to do this now? Elf, if ye can pick off that mask-man, we'll be better off for it." Eldrid whispered, hoping that everyone heard him, but not being able to see by anyw facial expressions if they did... due to the lack of faces...

As the arrow flew towards its target it materialised after leaving the safety of Arturo's illusion. The turtle leader looked up at it in time to see it coming towards him but not fast enough to move out of the way. It caught him in the shoulder, the small part that was not covered by his shell. It seemed to scream with anger and then started chanting madly.

Arturo, I need a will save please.

Arty was feeling particularly pleased with himself, for once the plan seemed to be coming together quite nicely. The turtle leader issued unholy howl and Arty suddenly felt a little weird.

The fragment that Arturo held shattered in a pretty display of sparks and once again everyone's body parts materialised into the visible spectrum of light. The leader yelled something and pointed at the group, the few natives who were with him started to run up the series of ledges, going towards their prey.

Scurvy cursed. He wasn't sure why. He was just surprised they'd made it as far as they had. Ah well today was a good day to die. But Scurvy thought that tomorrow was better. Or maybe the next day. Or the one after that. In fact immortality sounded like a wonderful idea to him, and with that turned on his heels and started fleeing back the way they came...

The old crone sighed and stuck out her leg as Scurvy went past, causing him to go sprawling on the floor. "Now now!" she said, tutting and wagging her finger at him.
