Now, I know the rest of you are the crew of a salvage vessel, but this retired Imperial Army Captain, decorated no less, lives in Downport Garda-Vilis and may prove a useful contact..... he comes suited, booted and armed with an advanced combat rifle as clean as the day it first came out of its Instellarms LIC packaging.

Background:

Sometimes known as the Hero of Garlfur (events, 12), Jahrn Denlich was not, apart for his deeds at Garlfur, a very noticable person. He lived on Earth, enlisted on the military, and later moved to Garda-Vilis, for unknown reasons, the downport, to be exact.. He was once part of the 152:nd Regiment. He became a Lieutenant, although by no means extraordinary. He was born to a poor household, and the military gave him a chance, through the Draft.

Eventually, as his black hair started to gray, and his strength falter, he momentarily used anagathics to remain health for just a bit longer. But he retired soon after that, a Captain.

It is mostly unknown just exactly WHAT happened at Garlfur. All that is know is that he was simply... Promoted. Nowadays, he still keeps his old ACR rifle in good condition, dressing in mildly-protecting clothing, and hopes to live out his life calmly.

Unfortunately for him, things have NEVER been calm. Not for him, anyways

Okay Arothas, you've mentioned an auto pistol and an advanced combat rifle. If you want to have both that's fine and your skill scores can look like this:

Gun Combat (slug thrower rifle) 2
Gun Cbt (pistol) 0

or

rifle 1
pistol 1

or

rifle 0
pistol 2

You are also more than welcome to a cutlass but I can't find a skill score in melee on your character - that would mean -3 to use until you gain a level in the skill - a pretty good character goal as it happens.

Pilot (small craft) 1 added. That seems to make more sense than pilot (spacecraft) and allows you to pilot the ship's boat, cutters, lifeboats etc.

Arothas I've added melee (blade) 1 to your character sheet. I'm sorry I missed it on your note to me.

I'm afraid however that you won't be operating at Rifle (slug thrower) 2 and pistol (slug thrower) 1...... the skill system doesn't work like that. Your specialism gives you the modifier (skill level) in that speciality and the bonus of level 0 in related skills, thus avoiding the -3 penalty.

So, as I said, because you have 2 levels in gun cbt, you can choose from:

1 level in two Gun cbt specialisms
2 in one and effectively 0 level in all other Gun cbt (in your case this would immediately relate to your pistol, but would be equally effective if you picked a shotgun out of the ship's locker or a laser rifle of a fallen comrade).

Okay. There has been some debate about this in Traveller circles but in fact you do gain a great deal in related skills even though it might seem that 0 level pistol isn't so great for someone who is more than competent with a rifle.

If you shoot a pistol you get to roll 2D6 needing - all other things being equal - 8+ to hit. You add your Dex bonus +1, and so need 7+ to hit.

If you had no skill at all in gun cbt, even with Dex bonus +1 you'd still get -3 and need 10+ to hit.

Now it's up to you to choose. Tell me and I'll adjust your character sheet. Okay?
