The sun as setting, it dipped behind the trees of the forest. A bird chirped it's goodnight to its chicks. A squirrel nibbles on a nut. The deer bends down and drinks from the stream.

You are Strider, living with your family in the small town of View Mont, just west of Chimney. You are out hunting for dinner and furs to sell at the market tomorrow.

The deer looks up for a moment, directly at you. It dips it's head for another drink, not seeing you hidden amongst the bushes.

Your arrow sits, notched in your longbow, ready to fly towards it's mark.

The kill spot, just below it's neck, to the side of it's front leg. It's heart pumping.

You take a deep breathe...

And let fly the arrow!

OOCMake a ranged attack check.

Strider grinned; he was in his element.

Strider tenses... and releases his grip on the arrow. It flies true as it skewers the deer right in the soft spot. The deer doesn't even mutter a cry as it drops to the floor, blood gushing from the arrow wound.

OOCYou didn't need a damage check, you either kill the deer or not. Also lets just say you are REALY lucky for killing it = )

OOCHmmm... Did it have a high AC? Was a Black Companyman watching me? Was it colored... White??

Strider snorted, another days work done in merely half an hour. Was it just him, or was he exceptionally talented compared to everyone else? Probably the latter, he thought, as he went to retrieve his arrow as well as the deer. Deer fur wasn't particularly valuable, especially not compared to those wolves he'd sometimes trap. Or bear-pelts, for that matter.

OOCDid I ever mention Strider's an asshole?[/rhetorical]

OOCNo, no Black Company man was watching. I had other plans if you missed. VWEG
I also need the name of your parents, siblings and any other relatives that would be living with you.

Your knife slides beneath the deers skin as you begin to skin it. Blood spills from between the skin , your blade and your fingers as your spread the skin out.
The sun was beginning to set as you nearly finish skinning it.
A bird chirps and then a twig snaps.

OOCPlease make a reflex check.

Strider was surprised, but not slow, even as he heard the twig break and the flutter of wings...

As Strider turns to the sound of the twig and the bird a black blur streaks down.
CRACK!
Everything goes dark...

A wolf howl awakens you. Blood is dripping down the side of your head. The deer and it's fur is gone...
Another wolf howls. The blood... They can smell the blood! The deer blood, as well as the blood dripping from your scalp.
The wolves were getting closer. They ruled the forests at night, especially when it was a full moon.
The moon did help to illuminate the forest but it caused the wolves to go in blood rage, ravaging and killing any poor beast they found.
You can see smoke rising in the distance, coming from the direction of your home...

Strider lay still, very, very, still, even as blood dripped from his forehead... He could see smoke rising, and he knew that something was awfully wrong, not that he'd particularly grieve his family even if they all died.

The blood had to be removed somehow, lest the wolves get him... Wait, the waterskin! He desperately fumbled after his waterskin, searching for it, to wash away the blood.

The concerns of what or who had knocked him out was one that he ignored for the moment.

A wolf howl went up! Followed by another, then another. One howl was close by, while the other two were in the distant. Somewhere near the smoke.
More howls went up. Something had sparked the wolves into a frenzy!
What ever was happening, was happening near your home!

Finding his waterflask, he poured it over himself in a feeble attempt to wash away all the blood, and then retrieving his bow as he cautiously tried to make his way home... Wolves. They had sharp eyes and ears, but he had snuck past them before... Sometimes. Generally, it just ended up with him shooting them all, anyways... He stuck to the shadows, avoiding the twigs, the water on his face stinging his eyes...

... As he never the less moved through the forest like a ghost on speed.

Strider stalked his way silently through the forest. He avoided all of the wolves, the wolves not even knowing he slid right past them.
Eventually he made it back to his house.
"What have you done!"
Looking up he caught sight of his father rushing towards him. His father punched Strider in the face when he reached him!
"You're a disgrace! Get the f**k out of here! I'll kill you if I ever see you again!" His father was furious!
The barn where the family kept the horses was ablaze! The smell of horse flesh burning was chocking the air!
Both Jacks and his uncle rushed around outside throwing buckets of water on the flames.
The deer and it's fur hung to one side of it, dumped.
Strider's mother and sister stood in the arch of the door way, looking out towards the barn, then to Strider, back and forth. His mother bore the same look as his father, a look of horror on his sisters.

What? Strider was stunned.

... what? The deer... how? He pulled back, considering telling them that he knew nothing, but they would not listen. He slipped backwards, into the forest, his bow at the ready should any of his family approach. He had absolutely no idea of what had happened... what had happened, really?

The barn continued to burn! Luckily they managed to get it sorted before it could spread to the house. It was a mess though, nothing much stood of it. They hadn't managed to save any horses either.
"I told you father, he is worthless. As soon as I told him your decision he went crazy! I was lucky enough to get back here with the deer for us all. Lucky I even came back!" Jack said to his father. "Isn't that right cousin?"
Jack turned to his cousin. He had a huge black eye and cuts all across his arms like he had been continually hit.
Jack (of Diamonds) simply nodded his agreement.
"And you say you don't know where Stump is?"
"No father, Strider must have hurt him!" Jack (of Swords) replied to his father.
Slinks and Slimmy were inside the house with Grumps. They still hadn't stopped crying.
Nickel shook his head. "Lucky he didn't cause any harm to Slinks or Slimmy... But we still need to go out and look for Stumps. Jack, you stay here with the others, son, come, we'll go see if we can find Stumps."
Jack (of Diamonds) watched as Nickel and Jack (of Swords) headed out in the direction of the forest. He collapsed onto the floor and broke down in tears. A scream left his mouth. Slinks and Grumpy crashed out of the front door to see what was going on.
"I'm useless, worthless... How could I let this happen!" He screamed as tears and snot flew from his face. He thrashed around while Grumpy tried to calm him down.
"It's okay son, relax, it wasn't your fault, you couldn't have stopped it!"
"But I could have! Just if I had stopped Jaa..." He froze, unable to finish the sentence...

Snap of an arrow. Stringing of a bow. Cracked twig.

"Stopped who, dear brother?" Strider's voice held a hint of mocking, but he was curious, as his voice carried over, emphasized by the fact that a arrow was now notched, even though it was held casually... Although vaguely directed against Diamonds, as Strider shifted his feet. Jaa-who?

[ November 11, 2009, 5:31 pm ] - Arothas rolled 1d20 ± 0 and obtained 9 ( 9, ). Reason : Intimidate.

The effect was ruined slightly by the chiding voice.

OOCEh... Personally I think the notched arrow should add a circumstance bonus (of +2), but that's up to you.
