Joeb pulled a chair out and patted it so it made a loud 'thunk' sound "heres a chair" when he turned back he began clattering around the kitchen looking for edible things.
"Y'know I can't just keep calling you little one, what is your name? Mines Joeb" he said evenly.

"Shelly. Shelly McCormick." She moved towards the sound of the chair, bumping into it with her cane. She reached down and made sure it wasn't going to move before she sat down. "Well, it's good to have a sit."

"yes, it is" Joeb said cheerily, reaclled out a loaf of half-eaten breadhing into a cupoard he pulled out a loaf of homemade bread, he place it on the counter and went to his toolkit, pulling out a spotless hacksaw he began to cut up the bread "I hope just bread is ok I was never much of a cook Ms McCormick my wife handled most of that" his voice quavered sadly at the end, he coughed and fell silent before placing a piece onto her hand.

Gracie nodded at Bill. "I was always brought up to help those in need or those who couldn't help themselves. My training only helped to bolster that resolve in me. This is all just like the movies I used to watch back at home, very surreal. Something needs to be done and I feel like I'm in the middle of it now." he looked down at his palms. There was always something that could be done the thought to himself.
Looking up he noticed a weird look cross Peter's face.
There seemed to be a bit of activity early this morning as Gracie made his way to the kitchen. He listened for a bit to the conversation then when there was a break he formally introduced himself.
"Good morning all, to those who don't already know me my name is Rendo Gracie, everyone calls me Gracie though. I come from Brazil and have a military and martial arts background." He wasn't sure what else to add. He just hoped he didn't intimidate anyone.

After listening to Gracie's speech, Peter packs up what he needs and locks the Landrover's door. "I'm gonna go in and get summat to eat, Bill. You want 'owt else or are you happy with that coffee?" Peter's eyes flick to Bill's lips and then back to the door. "I'm gonna go see what the others are up to. Gimme a shout if you need anything."
With that, he squeezes past and heads inside. "Morning all," he says to the assembled gang.

The smell of coffee woke Janet. She had slept surprisingly well, although her body was so exhausted she had probably needed it. Being alone in the bed she thought Don must be up already making breakfast. Maybe he would bring her a coffee. Reality crashed over her as she awoke fully, feeling the now familiar aches and seeing the fresh dressing on her hand that Jennifer had seen to the night before. Don was gone, her safe, comfortable little world stripped from her in the harshest manner possible. When would this stop? she wondered. Blocking it out and then the sudden overwhelming remembering. When would she ever be free of it. Janet sat on the bed shaking, her face buried in her hands. She remained like this for some while, trying to relax. Only when she felt composed enough to face the others did she make her way to the kitchen.
"Good morning Shelley" she said as she entered the room. There were two men there as well. "More strangers" she thought warily. But she had met these two last night at dinner she realised, Gracie and.. Joeb. She muttered a quick greeting to them as she busied heself with getting coffee. "Would.. would anyone else like some coffee? Or any breakfast if I can find anything?" she asked, her voice a little higher pitched than normal, hating herself for this nervousness.

Janet, that was her name. "Some coffee would be wonderful, do you need a hand with breakfast. Back home I always made breakfast for the family on Sundays." Gracie wanted to give as much as he took. he made his way to the sink and offered any help that was needed.

Janet edged away slightly as Gracie approached, she couldn't help herself. "Th..Thank you, that's good of you" she said as she got mugs out of a cupboard and placed them ready. "Maybe you could have a look in some of these cupboards and see if there's anything there we could use for breakfast. Also, I don't know if there's any chickens here, this is a farm after all but I haven't seen any". She looked at Joeb, he said he'd come here with Chris' group. "Do you know if there are any here?" she asked. "If so, there might be some eggs". She poured coffee, a little clumsily since she was having to use the wrong hand. Wiping up the spill, she took the mugs to the table. There was a bowl of sugar neatly placed in the middle. She put one of the mugs in front of Shelley, guiding her hand to it so she knew where it was. "I don't know how you all take your coffee" she said apologetically. "There's sugar here but I don't know if there's any milk". Janet realised she was talking to cover her awkwardness, she had better shut up. She sat down next to Shelley and sipped her own coffee in silence.

when Janet asked him a question Joeb looked up, he had been just sitting here when all these people showed up, "I don't know about chickens Miss, I just work with machines and electronics" he said cautiously, patting his large tool-box

"Oh.. I see. Well I wonder if there is anyone who knows" replied Janet. Alyssa would know certainly, but Janet hadn't seen the woman for some time. Maybe she had some business to attend to elsewhere.

Shelley felt the heat from the coffee, the smell telling her it was fresh and good. "Thank you Janet. It's been a while since I've had any coffee." She picked it up and sipped at it, wishing she had something to take away some of the bitter taste. "Did you say there was sugar?"

"Yes there is" replied Janet reaching to pick up the sugar bowl, switching hands swiftly when she realised she had reached out automatically with her injured right hand. "How many do you want Shelley?" she asked with the spoon poised.
Jennifer didn't seem to think there would be any lasting nerve damage to her hand, but it was a deep cut and would take time to heal. Janet was already finding out how awkward it was to keep remembering to use her left hand and there were some things she would find impossible for a while. Hopefully this next outing would be trouble free, they were only going to a library to fetch a book after all. How difficult could that be? Janet considered that any survivors in the area would be congregating around any potential food sources. A library didn't seem a likely place for that so she hoped it would be deserted.

"Two lumps please. I'm trying to watch my figure." Shelley smiled at that. She wasn't really sure what her 'figure' was. She had traced the outline of her body with her hands before, but she had nothing to compare it to. She didn't know what other girls her age looked like, but as far as she knew she was slim and in shape. Two lumps of sugar weren't going to change that.

Gracie lent against the sink as he sipped his hot coffee.
"How did you all get here? Same as I? Just sort of fell into the group? Or does this house belong to someone here?" He was quite intrigued. Had they stumbled here one by one? People did tend to gather in groups and especially now with all the trouble, safety was in numbers.

"personally I fell in with this group when Chris found me and my children in our house, I found it very hard to say no.
after a while i expressed intentions to leave but Chris had a little chat with me *Joeb' face paled slightly* I f-found it would be safer for my children if I stayed with his group" he finished with a stammer.
