At 17, Ren is used to doing her share of work in the farming community where she was born. One of the older members named her Serenity after a movie he had seen before the Fall, but since such wonders are now largely forgotten and no one bothers to use her full name, Ren has almost forgotten what it is. There had been a few children born with some slight mutations in the settlement, however, Ren's were a little more obvious than the others. Her white hair and black eyes marked her as unusual from the first. Although the climate was now harsh she never seemed to feel cold, was almost too warm in fact, more so than would be accounted for by the thin coat of white fur that covered her body. Almost from weaning she had a taste for raw meat and if she encountered blood anywhere she would lick it with undisguised delight. It was also very quickly discovered just how much heat she could generate, particularly when stressed or having a childish tantrum when a few sudden and unexplained fires had to be quickly dealt with. Rather than shun her, Ren's community elected to help her control these things which she achieved with quite a good success. She is now of good use to her community as she can use her ability to generate heat to light fires for cooking and to warm buildings that house their few animals. Ren loves the animals and takes on more than her fair share of caring for them, even to indulging her desire for blood by licking clean any wounds they receive. The rest of the community accept this as long as she continues to show no tendency to harm the animals further, although her love for them is such that she would never seek to harm them and is even sorry when they are selected for food purposes. Threats to her settlement are a very different thing however. A nomadic party of raiders attacked and Ren took her place with the others of her community to protect their few assets. In catching hold of one of the raiders intent on looting the animal shed she caused major burns over most of his body including setting his clothing on fire. When the raid was over she was found beside her victim, having slit his throat with the knife she carried, delightedly drinking his blood. Ren is not the most intelligent of girls, but she was made to understand that this was a thing never to become a habit. This had been an enemy and she must take extra care to learn the difference.
