More about Priestess Shu'ka:

Shu'ka was always a sick child. One of the mutations in her body had greatly weakened her immune system, and she every winter she nearly died. Yet each year she miraculously recovered, and this caught the eye of the local cult leader, Bak'clem. He believed the girl to be a sign from above, showing that every winter they grew sick and cold, but every spring they recovered and lived yet another year. Coerced with banishment from the community if they did not hand over the frail child, her parents gave Shu'ka to the cult leader, who made her into the priestess of the Temple of Sorrows and Joys. Shu'ka has spent many years presiding over rituals and having many sacrifices made in her favor, yet something was missing. She went through the motions, but she just didn't feel like the gods really did speak through her. Feeling a pilgrimage across the land would help her focus more on her faith, she packed lightly and crept out of the temple late in the evening, the open road ahead of her.
