As the group was waiting inside the inn, Nailo trying to sneak outside by the upstairs window, noise rose from outside. A ruckus of weapons and imcomprehensible shouts with only a much louder "ALIVE!" shout to cover them all.
The captain ran down the stairs with a visible annoyed glare on his face, heading straight outside. The group followed to find Nailo, obviously stunned, ready to give up a fight to a squadron of readily armed guards.
Out of nowhere Taern pierced through the crowd her group was creating just outside the inn and for reasons only her could understand, she offered herself in exchange of everyone's freedom.
Nailo on his side didn't seem willing to go down so easily and using his magic built his defense. However he was met by four armored horsemen who quickly brought him down and tied him like a saussage unable to move or speak.
The leader of the guard agreed to let the group leave free, escorted out of town by his men. Nailo and Taern were taken prisoners.
The guards leading the rest of the group pressed them, not giving them much time to gather anything more than what they carried. They left the group outside the gates, keeping an eye on them until they were far enough.
The weather was cold, winter could be felt in the air even though the first snows were not there yet. Ahead was a single road, luckily the one they were to take if they wanted to bring the mission to a good end.
Without anything but a forbidden city and the sea behind them, the group decided to walk up the road ahead of them.
A little after noon, as it had been warned by the friendly captain, the group was ambushed by surprisingly well equipped bandits. Even more surprising for bandits, the band never asked for goods in exchange for life. The group was attacked and quickly realised that the projectiles they were shot at with were poisoned. A few of the bandits were killed, but the group was quickly tamed.
Waking up at night to the commanding word of a female child of no more than 12 years, just after being knocked down by bandits was a surprising shock.
It took a few hours for everyone to realize that this young girl was actually the leader of a cult who lived off blood sacrifice made to some unnamed night queen. The cult forced magical cuffs on every prisoner prohibiting magic use.
Quickly you realized that slavery was awaiting you, chores ranging from wood cutting to some less glamorous activities to satisfy the needs of the cultists.
Each night at dusk the less useful of the slave was sacrificed to the queen, with the child leader, named Miza, drinking and bathing in the blood and entrails.
The group members were not the only slaves however and the cult always seemed to find more through raids of many sorts.
However over a matter of a few weeks the first of the group was sacrificed, Logen. Without his daily alcohol he eventually did burst in a fit of rage, killing two guards and wounding some other.
Escape was tried often but everytime was anticipated in some way and met with torture so great that it made the slavery seem like a fun game.
This morning...
Taern
Your new companions, as irsute as they seemed, managed to guide the infiltration near the borders of the Ancient One's realm. The trip was slow, but at least no encounters happened. They warned of bandits and things more odd in the area, and being unsure if they worked for any of the Reds, they prefered not have the group's presence known.
It took two days to make the trip which Taern remembered making in three hours on the road when she came to town weeks ago. Then Taine whispered:
"We should be outside of the Realm by lunch..." And then a black out.
Tanner and Majere
A few hours ago, as the night was still in the sky, someone came to your prison cell. The specific features were blurred, but it was obviously a female of a young age. What brought doubt upon her true identity is the fact that she killed the two guards guarding you with a simple and silent touch of their cheek.
A gaze was enough to put the other prisoners to sleep. For some reason she kept the two of you awake, and even more, opened your cages. Seconds later her appearance became clearly, making it clear to the two of you that she was most likely the leader of your captors. The birthmark above her collarbone was making it certain.
She touched your cuffs with her young fingers before speaking:
"When the night saves you, leave the realm with haste." And she disappeared.
As the sun got up, armed cultists took you and brough you to the girl. There was Tanner and his companion, Majere and his bird, along with Bredak. She then called for one of her assistant and explained that he was to bring the three away to the Reds realm and sell you as slaves. Cultists were surprised by the decision but not got up to complain.
So the three of you were brought away, cuffed and chained, as slaves for trade. Your captors were not walking in the open in fear for patrols, so the trip was long. Eventually you noticed in the distance the hills that you remembered as the border to the realm...and then everything blacked out.
Everyone
At first it seemed like a spell of darkness had been cast, but slowly you were able to see. Not as much as in the light of day, but enough to see before you, much like a night lit by a half moon.
What was stranger is that people disappeared, while other appeared.
You were not where you used to be. You were standing right on the road, about two hundred feet from the foothills that marked the end of the realm. A pile of stuff was sitting in the middle of the group, which Tanner and Majere quickly recognized as their gear. On top of the pile was sitting a small box that Tearn and Tanner recognized for what used to contain the lens that Bredak took days ago.
And then the ground started to rumble
OOC said:
Taern, Tanner, Majere and Taine are there. Majere is Druid's new character, who was a captive with Tanner. Taine is my npc who was travelling with Taern. This may feel like an awkward "GM thumb" situation, but consider it a new start while still keeping what happened before. Enjoy
