Sometime after the ride in the lift...
Breakfast was a quiet affair. You where up early, the side of your head a little sore from the work Eve did on your dataplug. The upgrade went okay: just a little work hardening a few key components and fixing the firmware. No more overflow attacks or nerve jams via this baby.
Trent offered you a 'jack' to try with your new plug. The jack links any dataplug based device via a wireless connection. The encryption's heavy enough, but your new plug won't have any issues with that. The small black disk rests on the breakfast table in front of you. All you need to do is bond it to your own 'ware and then jack it into the computer pad to run that without a keyboard.
One of the side doors opens and Trent strolls in. He looks like he's been up all night. "Wassup," he drawls and helps himself to the coffee pot.

"Not much," Hayden said, and then smirked, "Yet..." He looked at Trent, wondering whether he could be easily goaded, it wasn't something that Hayden did often, didn't have much chance to in his line of work, generally anyone he made contact with he either wanted information or money, and irritating them was not likely to make that end any easier. "Of course, I've yet to try this jack, who knows, I could get all Math.rand() again..."

"Yeah," the Triton replies as he sips the large mug of coffee. "Maybe you could do my taxes if you feel the need. Get all those numbers out of your system." Trent's dark eyes shine with mischief and he puts the mug down on the tabletop. "I got mine fitted last week. Works a treat, no more messing about with tech when you're submerged."

"If I do start to spurt numbers, random search engine results, or anything else that incomprehensible - and don't take that term to liberally - do feel free to shove something in my mouth," Hayden remarked, as he began the bonding process.

Trent moved towards the kitchen area and flipped open on of the cupboards. He pulled out an energy bar and ripped the top off with his teeth. "I can understand your... what's the word? Reticence? I mean, what you guys went though."

"I would say 'All in a day's work' to try and sound all suave and cool, but to be honest I think you'd know I was lying," Hayden said as he finished the bonding process, "Right then, try to fire this thing up."

"No worries," Trent says and he scoffs the rest of his snack.
The aug chip slots into the computer terminal just like any other data cable. For a moment, nothing happens and then your new dataplug buzzes against your skin. A small window opens within your vision and it lists the serial number of the aug as requesting access. Other devices are listed, but the plug's firewall has screened those out. All you need do is close your right hand to complete the link and the computer will be bonded to your 'ware.

"So far so good," Hayden said, almost cherrily. "Well, he we go," he said as he squeezed his hand shut, hopefully opening his mind to a world of possibilities and not a world of algebra.

The connection completed, but there was no surge of numbers or algebraic compulsions. A ghost-like keyboard floated over the top of the data panel and you opened a search tool. The unit responded instantly, the meta-engine appearing in a dance of pixels. "S'okay, man," Trent commented. "We're screened down here. Traffic shows up as if we're from Nest. Search as you need to."

"Great," Hayden said closing everything down, he'd only wanted to test things out. "Listen, thanks for your help, I do appreciate it. Any idea how the others are getting on with their...upgrades?"

Dropping the snack's wrapper into the recycling unit, Trent brushed the crumbs into the sink. "Fi went in yesterday. Ophelia was behind her. That just leaves the nec girl: Cass. She didn't need much work and she's been helping out." The grin returns. "Adam seems more full of beans since she got back."

"Well, that's good to hear I suppose. I guess things will get back to normal now then, for all of us." Hayden sounded almost remorseful, it wasn't often that he worked with people in such close quarters, it made him wonder, though he was sure about what, he seemed to have a fluttering feeling in his stomach, almost like dread.
