Appearance: Black hair, green eyes, skin tone leaning towards pale, about 5’3”, has a childlike air/quality to her
Background: Her father Rikoto Hitsu was born and raised on the Blessed Isle where he trained to be a physician. He gathered a decent amount of local renown and was asked at one point to accompany a merchant trader on one of his trips to ensure the merchant’s proper recovery from an injury he had received. One of the stops on this trip was Nexus. Whilst in port Rikoto made the acquaintance of several local merchants/guild members and recognized the potential for a thriving medical practice in the city. When his contract with the merchant concluded he returned to his home, wrapped up his affairs, and moved to Nexus to start his practice. He met and married a merchant’s daughter by the name of Meilee Toshiro. Sai is their only daughter and she was raised from a small age in all the medical arts so that when she got older she might assist her father in his work. In juxtaposition to the lifestyle her father’s work supported she was also constantly surrounded by the poor that permeate the city of Nexus, those who struggle and suffer on a daily basis. It did not take long for this contrast in existences to alter the way she perceived the world instilling in her a deep compassion for those who lacked the ability to support themselves. Soon she was spending less and less time helping her father and more and more time providing free medical services to those who couldn’t afford care. Her actions spoke louder than words ever could, and many in the slums know her name and welcome her with cautious but open arms.
(note: due to his upbringing on the Blessed Isle Sai’s father shares the idea of exalts as anathema, he has made no secret of this opinion)
Exaltation: She was in the slums on a house call when a fire broke out down the road, the houses are tightly packed and dry and within moments the whole block is aflame, she rushes to help and is met with the sight of terrified people watching, unable to do anything, as their families are trapped inside, unable to escape the flames, she’s surrounded by smoke, and screams, and the roar of the fire. All at once, time seems to freeze, everything is still and silent, and then with a rush, it starts again as power floods through her body. She thinks “I have to stop the fire” and feels a shifting of the power as waves of energy sweep over the fires quenching their fury. “The people” she whispers, hearing their groans and screams, again the power shifts, this time lifting her into the air as a burst of prismatic light fills the block soothing and healing everyone it touches. She slowly starts to drift back to the ground as the light begins to fade, as her feet settle she looks around in surprise and is met with equally surprised looks from the people around her. The moment is broken by the sound of the guard’s whistles in the distance, at this the people jump into motion, amidst murmured thank yous a small handful of people lead her swiftly out of the ally.
They were nearly to the edge of town when the guards caught up with them, with in moments they were cornered and it was clear that these men were not in a forgiving mood. The captain was stepping forward, sword raised when a large bengal tiger shot out of the shadows and landed, claws first, squarely on his back. The soldiers leapt forward to assist and the next few moments were a flurry of swords and claws and fur and blood. Not wanting to face either guards or tiger they took this opportunity to slip away, though not before Sai took one more look over her shoulder at their strange savior. At the boundaries of the city they were met by a stranger, the people said that he would take her to someone who could help her, then with wishes of good luck they melted back into the city leaving her to begin her new life.
