Shifty puffed away, they were nearing the city gates, torches were lite in the distance. "The family ey? Well the Captain is in charge and the Lieutenant is his second, we follow their orders. Croaker is the medic and annalist, we cherish our history here, after all, we are the last of the Free Companies of Khatovar. He often does a reading form the records every week or so. One-Eye, Goblin and Tom-Tom are our mages, don't ever get on their bad side, they can literally make your life hell. One-Eye and Tom-Tom are brothers. Cook is our expert chef, Longshot is quite the marksman. Rock is our wall. Tuddy and Worms, now there's a couple! Always finding themselves trouble and getting my bro, Pockets into strife as well. Tubby hefts a massive axe which I've seen cleave a man in half. Worms likes to sneak into places. Need a pocket swiped, Pockets is your man. Me? Well you know me! The other new recruits are a mystery to me, Crow hangs with the mages, he seems to have some potential and Rock always seems to be besides Vixen, maybe somethings goin' on there ey!" Shifty laughed as he took another puff, black smoke trailed from his nostrils.

"Hmm, well what do you think our new assignment will be, I'm looking forward to getting my blades wet, what about you? The new family members will be fine, Crow seems like a mystery and well Vixen is a looker, I ain't never had a sister, just two brothers before we were sold in to bondage to pay for my ma's habit." Serpent said with spit of disgust on his lips and making the sign against the evil eye.

Shifty laughed, "That she is! That scar of hers is brutal though!" The pair continued to walk. The distant city gate lights seemed to have multiplied. "No idea about our next mission. No one's said anthing. I know the mages have some task and we'll probably be asked to help out if it gets a bit messy for them."

Serpent continued to walk, occasionally his hand would go over the new brand on his neck. He just felt like walking and looked at each store front if anything caught his eye. "Has the captain said anything about free lancing on our own, or are we strictly on company business?"

"Well, when we're on Black Company time, we're on Black Company time. When we're on leave, we're on leave and can do what we like with that time. Usually that means whores, drinking and gambling!" Shifty responded to Serpent as they continued to walk. The street was quiet except for voices could be heard coming from the direction of the city gates, muffled and inaudible. "At the moment though, we're on leave. I'm sure we'll find out what the mages need help with in the morning." Shifty took another puff, "Then it'll be back to work!"

Serpent grinned and looked at Shifty, "So brother what do you want to do, go back and get some rest, find us a nice woman and get us some rest or wait for the mages at the inn?"

A grin spread across Shifty's face, "**Please put me on mod preview** the mages, the others can help them out. Lets find us some 'special' ladies!" Shifty flicked a silver coin towards Serpent, "A gift, for my new brother! And I know just the place to spend it."
The city gates could finally be seen. Turning the corner away from them, the pair were greeted with four men, they were bent over four bodies, lying stiff. The four men were taking the clothes off the dead bodies. The four men quickly put on the dark green uniforms of the city guard.
So far, the four men hadn't noticed Shifty and Serpent.

Serpent caught the coin in his left hand and was flipping it in the air when he turned the corner with Shifty, he saw the four dead guardsmen and grinned as he pitched the silver coin hard against the wall. He immediately grabbed his falchion and kukri out and hoped Shifty would follow suit.

"Well, well, well my lads, seems we have a little problem." he said.

The four men suddenly looked up surprised!
Shifty smiled at the men and drew his two daggers, twirling them in his hands.
One of the men stepped back, obviously the leader of the men, "Quick, kill them!"
"Seems we'll have a warm up before me meet the ladies later!" Shifty continued to grin.

Man 2 attacks Serpent with his short sword.

Serpent's kukri digs deep into the mans shoulder, the arm falling limp.

Man 2 takes 8 HP damage.

Seeing his friend hurt Man 3 attacks Serpent with his short sword, aiming for his head.

But misses.

Man 1 locks eyes with Shifty. hefting his short sword he ducks down and springs up!

Shifty takes 8 HP damage.

Shifty staggers back from the blow, blood pouring from his wound. Shifty takes a step back, daggers twirling in his palms. he lunges forward with both daggers!

One blade finds the mans ribs while the other plunges deep into the mans hand.

Man 2 attacks Serpent again...

...but slips on some blood, falling to the ground.
